New Year Delusion

You will not become a better person with the turn of the year. You will not suddenly become more lucky, more handsome or more successful. Your life will not suddenly and magically flip over for the better. Your family will not become the ideal family. Your investments won’t start paying off the moment the year number increments. Your gods won’t like you better just because its a new year and you really really want it. People won’t all of a sudden start liking and respecting you in the Spring. Your significant other will not take an interest in you all anew. The world will not become nirvana, paradise, shangri-la, concordia, hyperboria, utopia, Silicon Valley or whatever other sort of heaven you believe in.

It will be the same shit, only a different day. Get over it already, because statistically, the day after that will yet be worse and the day after that even worse still.

    You are right, but sometimes it pays off to be intentionally delusional.

    I believe if you dig [enough] deep into everything that is on the [very short] list of that people enjoy, you will find emptyness.

    Take religion, this new year delusion, “people” buying new stuff [umm, like new phones *goes whistle*] to give them joy, marriage, etc.

    The truth is, as you mentioned, nothing can make this day and age human, happy.

    Some day, as you mentioned much earlier, you’ll enjoy a 1TB HDD, one day you enjoy your shadow system, etc.

    I think there is just one way to semi-solve this problem and its liying to yourself, like the mass do.

    For Tyler Durden’s sake there is nothing magical to happen on the second that year goes over, and I believe ppl are aware of that too but with the delusion (its so harsh to call it a delusion, but I already typed that) of haft-seen (get the pun!) and buying new clothes, seeing other relatives, the season being Spring and more lovely than Winter (atleast for the mass is like that), smiling to each other and stuff, will give them enough material to delusion over that we are *happy*.

    With all due respect, I think its much easier to criticism them on not to be happy, instead of _trying_ to be happy. Its much harder to be happy instead of not to. Its much easier to find patches and holes here and there to find your life is not complete or what you want, instead of enjoying it. I do know and aware that its not facing 100% truth but that would make your life more enjoyable, if not less miserable.

    Like God, I know it doesnt exist and its a illusion, but take a look, which group of ppl are living more happily, the atheist ones or their contrast?

    Like kids that believe in Santa, which is better, tell them that Santa doesnt exist or let them enjoy finding a lataest gen iPod in their hanging socks?

    I know and get your point but I see even smart people who delve into such things to live with , even a little, less misery.

    I think becoming something starts with believing in it, even though I have problem with this statement myself but I think its true, you first have to “accept” that “maybe” it will be better this year to atleast give the friggin Spring a chance to do its job, if not, nothing will change anything in you, even if its Carmack himself.

    You’re right, but you only spoke of anything, anyone, anytime but me! I may not expect the whole world change, but “I” can change if I want. However, this change is not supposed to take place annually, right on the moment of “new year”, but this is a property of hopeful mortal creatures who gain their actuating energy through various delusions.
    P.S. I like the “Silicon valley” part :)

    @MatGill(1):
    Of course, that’s what people do (including me) lots and lots. It’s the lies we tell ourselves to make us feel better. But that’s exactly like swallowing the blue pill. On principle, I can never condone such an act and can never support it.
    Although, being the weak being I am, I do it all the time nonetheless.
