Dragon Age, plus God of War Collection

I had heard of the new Bioware RPG Dragon Age: Origins but I guess I had forgotten about it. Today, I stumbled upon a couple of reviews and some videos and now I’m in love with the game! It appears to be very long (which probably means a few months of gameplay for me; yay!), difficult, deep and true to classic Bioware-RPGs. Almost everyone calls it a great successor to the Baldur’s Gate duo. And I enjoy Bioware games, from Baldur’s Gate and Neverwinter Nights to Mass Effect (yes, even KOTOR games!) My only worry is the departure from almost strict D&D ruleset of BG and NWN.
In any case, I’m downloading the whole 8GBs right now, unless somebody knows whether stores over here have got the game?

In other news, I finally got my hands on the God of War Collection trailer. For those rare GoW-challenged people among my audience, the Collection is a remastered version of the first two God of War games for the PS3 (they where released for the PS2 originally.) It seems that, as they had promised, SONY has not changed anything in the games, and just packed some higher resolution textures and (maybe) animations, which is a wise move. The first two GoWs deserve to be preserve at the masterpiece of gameplay they are. This will be release this month.
Obviously, the above means I have to get my own PS3. As soon as I figure out a robust solution to get both video and audio out of the PS3 and into my 1080p-capable but HDMI-incapable monitor and my speakers, I’m taking the trip to the Toopkhuneh(!) square and getting me a 120GiB PS3 Slim.

In yet other news, late last month (a day before my own birthday in fact) the twelfth book in the amazing and fantastic fantasy series The Wheel of Time has been released. It was supposed to be in November too IIRC, which makes the release a nice surprise. I’m already a fourth into the book and I’m liking it! May Robert Jordan rest in pieces… oops!… rest in peace.
I have one thing to say to anyone who likes high fantasy at all: GO READ THE BOOKS. The whole 12000-13000 pages of pure immersion and greatness. Doesn’t matter what other people say. I have read enough fantasy series to know which one is great! Go read it. Read the first book if you feel you don’t have the time. Do yourself a favor.

I would suggest a FAT one:

1- First, you have to buy a stand to “stand” the monster, he cannot stand on his own feet, phew. (like PS2 Slim)

2- The Slim’s design is kinda strange, the hard disk is below the Blu-ray drive and I’ve heard news of it getting warm.

3- In previous generations of SONY’s consoles, all Slim ones were cheaper with lower quality, whereas you can still find great FAT PS2’s.

4- Slim’s look cheap, they don’t even have touchable eject and power buttons, they have “buttons” desinged to decept you into a touchscreen one.

    5- Because I say so.

    6- ehem.

7- I’m getting a FAT too, if we both get together, maybe we can get a bargain!

8- Look, there is a crow over there, so, get a FAT one.

    9- Fat beats Slim.

10- Who wants to be slim? all nerds and g33ks are fat (forget those actors in Big Bang Theory (which you didn’t bring me and I had to download the whole first season)).

    11- Because of me.

12- Oh god, I can go on to like #200000 right now …

    [next week]

Teh dude at toopkhooneh: thanx for purchasing a FAT one.
    Aidin-accompanying-you-buying-teh-shit: oh, I think I’m getting a Slim one.

Going the way of the Stack…

    • Do I look like an idiot? Why should I play an RPG game on a console that lacks mouse, a keyboard, and lower graphics, plus in the case of DA:O, doesn’t let you zoom out on the console?!
    • OK, I didn’t think about that. Who should we kill to get the GoW Collection sooner?
    • I’ve been researching this Fat versus Slim thing, and here’s what I have found:
      • Slim versions don’t have any sort of PS2 emulation at all (no hardware, no software, nothing.) But recent Fat PS3s don’t have any either.
      • You cannot install Linux (or 3rd party operating systems, as Sony calls it) on Slims. Absolutely horrendous! This is the most annoying change.
      • One review claimed that Slims don’t have an Ethernet jack, which if true, means I’m very unlikely to buy a Slim.
      • The CELLs in Slims is based on a 45nm process, which makes them consume less power and emit less heat and makes the whole system quieter and nicer.
      • One source (different that above) claimed that the new CELLs are faster than the old ones.
      • I know that eventually, those stupid and power-hungry idiots at Sony will add features that will not be available to “legacy” systems and stuff like that.
      • I don’t know which one is cheaper, but I like cheap!

In short, I’ll have to flip a coin!

1- emulation of PS2 is so useless. There is also a PS1 emulation that no one even talks about.

2-Faster CELLs? the same exact thing happened to PS2, the slim PS2’s RSX is slightly faster than FAT ones.

3- You cannot stand a slim PS3 on its leg(s) ! how shitty is that. The whole monstrosity of this dude is when he is standing … (the same thing with PS2’s fat and slim, see the resemblance?)

4- big bang theory nadi be maha! lol, gool khordi !

5- Sony omran nemitoneh ye chizi bezareh ke to slim bashe vali to FAT nabashe. already dareh az FAT mizaneh ta be slim resideh, chon bayad arzoon beshe.

    6- az maa goftan !
